Milton is a close-knit community located between the Neponset River and the Blue Hills, only a quick ride on the Red Line into Boston for work or pleasure. One of the last affordable communities inside Route 95 offers something for everyone: starter homes, condos, midsize residences, and grand estates. There are six different historic districts and two town centers of East Milton Square and Milton Village, which offer small boutique retail shops and restaurants.
In addition to several small colleges, parochial schools, and private academies, Milton’s public schools have a good reputation and are uniquely known for their elementary school French Immersion Program established in 1987. Two museums not to be missed are the Forbes House Museum which houses an impressive China trade collection and the Eustis Estate Museum designed by renowned Boston architect, Wm. Ralph Emerson, in 1878, a marvel of the Aesthetic Movement, on 80 acres of lawns, woodlands, and gardens.
For the outdoor enthusiasts, the “Jewel in the Crown” is Blue Hills Reservation consisting of 6000 acres of open space and trails with the highest point in Norfolk County. At the summit is the Blue Hill Observatory, home of the longest continuous weather station in North America and the radio tower that transmits signals for the beloved WGBH radio station whose call letters signify the Great Blue Hill. Don’t miss out on The Trailside Museum (live animal exhibits) or the Reservation which offers skiing, hiking, mountain biking, swimming, golfing, and horseback riding. What a treasure! For boating enthusiasts check out The Milton Yacht Club founded in 1902 on the Neponset River.
